Pair of China Trade Portraits, Twin Chinese Girls

A very interesting and possibly unique pair of oil on canvas's depicting Chinese girl twins. The setting is wither a home owned by a westerner or an artists studio. The side cabinet fitted with diamond form lozonges is from Italy and made during the 19th. C. . In the photos the each girl clutches a blooming flower. Yuan - Ming Period Painting Egret and Red Blossoms

Yuan and Ming Period paintings of Egrets with red and white lotus blossoms are held in the highest esteem by practitioners of Buddhism for a variety of symbolic reasons. The red and white blossoms symbolize purity, beauty and rebirth. The religious significance of the white Egret symbolizes a Sutra known as Bailuchi jing or the White Egret Pond Sutra.
Another name for this is  Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra which describes the scene of Buddha teaching the 1250 disciples at the White Egret Pond. This painting is one of only few in the United States, it has been inpainted over the years and stylistically dates to the late Yuan or early Ming Period. Most examples are held in collections in Japan. See: "Tales from the Land of Dragons: 1000 Years of Chinese Painting" 1997 MFA Boston
